The EnergyLab Incubation Program helps entrepreneurs turn their clean energy startup ideas into reality. Currently available in Canberra, Hobart and Lismore.
Take your idea to the next level
Do you have an idea for a startup that will help decarbonise the energy sector? Not sure what exactly to do next? Let us help you.
Our Incubation Program is designed to provide you with the guidance and support you need to go from concept to securing customers and raising capital. During the program you will receive access to free co-working space, accounting and legal advice, workshops on startup fundamentals, and introductions to mentors and international partners.
Receive the support you need to get started
Office hours with local mentors
We'll organise office hours with mentors throughout the program so you can receive advice and guidance from people with experience.
Coaching from a successful entrepreneur
Every company in the program is assigned a business coach who has successfully set up, grown and sold at least one business. You will meet with your business coach periodically throughout the program to discuss the challenges facing your startup and how to overcome them.
Connections to international partners
As a member of New Energy Nexus, EnergyLab has extensive international networks. Throughout the program participants will be introduced to these partners.
Legal and accounting assistance
Have legal or accounting questions but can't afford to pay for professional advice? Not a problem - we'll organise office hours with lawyers and accountants so you can ask those burning questions.
You and your team will be provided hot desk membership in our local coworking space. More than just a place to get free internet and coffee, this is an opportunity to network with like-minded entrepreneurs.
Join a national community
As well as joining your local coworking space, you will be joining Australia's largest community of clean energy entrepreneurs. Get to know like-minded people and ask your peers for advice through our internal chat platforms.
Training in business fundamentals
Throughout the program, EnergyLab will run a series of workshops on a range of topics critical to refining your idea and developing a solid business plan.
Assistance raising capital
By the end of the program, we will help you put together a compelling pitch deck and introduce you to angel investors to help you secure the capital you need to scale.

The application process
The application process is quick and easy
The first step is to fill out a short online application form. All applications will be assessed on a rolling basis at the end of each calendar month.
If we think you could be a good fit for the program, we'll invite you to an interview to get to know you better. The interview will be held via video conference so you can conduct it anywhere with a decent internet connection.
A small number of lucky companies will be invited to join the EnergyLab Incubation Program! Offers will be made shortly after the interviews.
Successful startups will be invited to kick-off their incubation on a rolling basis.
What we're looking for
We're more interested in you than your idea. You need to be working on a business related to decarbonising the energy sector. But your idea will likely change during the program so an imperfect business plan isn't a deal breaker. Of greater importance is whether you have what it takes to succeed as a clean energy entrepreneur. Are you are willing to work hard, open to advice and comfortable taking calculated risks? If so you could be perfect for the program.
Here are some of the questions we're commonly asked. If there is anything else you would like to know please email [email protected].
No, we are happy to receive applications from solo founders.
I'm working on <insert technology>, can I apply?
Possibly! We take a very broad view of clean energy and include any technology that is required in a world powered by 100% renewable sources. Please send us an email and we'll tell you for sure.
I don't live in Australia, can I still apply?
No sorry, we can only accept applications from people living in or near Canberra, Hobart or Lismore.
How much does it cost?
Nothing! We don't charge anything to participate in the program and we don't take equity in your business.
When are applications due?
To be part of the program from kick-off please apply before Sunday 24 March. If you miss this date, don't worry; we'll continue to accept applications on a rolling basis. It doesn't take long to apply so put in an application as soon as possible.
