Six startups have joined EnergyLab’s new Climate Solutions Accelerator as the world looks for answers to the climate crisis.

After receiving a combined investment of nearly half a million dollars, the six companies taking part have kicked off a 6-month program to accelerate the deployment of their climate solutions in Australia and overseas.

The six startups include three Sydney-based companies. Circle Harvest creates more food using less resources in the form of a tiny, nutritious superfood: crickets! They’re joined by Infravision who deploy unmanned aircraft systems for power line construction and Hygrid Energy whose control technology provides an “engineer in a box” for managing renewable energy and battery storage assets.

Two companies join the program from Brisbane. The first of which is Bloom Impact Investing, a fintech startup making Climate Impact Investing easy and accessible for Australians. They’re joined by Carbon Asset Solutions, a nature-based climate action solution that supplies precision soil-based Carbon Credits to global markets faster and more cost effectively than any other method.

With eyes on the Australian market, California-based Harvest Thermal delivers the cleanest heating and hot water for every home by using an ultra-high efficiency heat pump at the time of day when electricity is cheapest combined with thermal storage.

Chair of EnergyLab, Piers Grove, said he is continually impressed by the ingenuity of the founders pursuing climate tech businesses and, with half of the startups in the cohort being female-led, there are signs that the startup ecosystem is attracting more women than in previous years.

“What we’ve seen over the years at EnergyLab is truly inspiring and demonstrates the talent and desire here in Australia for creating world-leading innovations.”

“This program ensures that startups with world-class teams, products and vision get the support they need to take their solutions to a global market.”

One thing the startups have in common is their tenacious spirit when tackling some of the world’s toughest problems. In regulated sectors like food, finance and energy, and with the engrained orthodoxies that come attached, it takes highly motivated innovators to instigate the changes needed to move the world towards a carbon neutral future.

The EnergyLab Climate Solutions Accelerator provides the best climate tech startups with all the support they need to reach their potential. Along with an initial investment, help comes in the form of coaching, industry partnerships and assistance in raising further capital to expedite their growth in Australia and overseas.
