The Climate Tech and Clean Energy Ecosystem was out in force for the All Energy Australia 2024 Conference.

Across two packed days the Climate Tech & Clean Energy Ecosystem came together to celebrate innovation at the EnergyLab Startup Showcase at the 2024 All Energy Australia Conference.

The EnergyLab Startup Showcase ran a packed two days of pitches, panels, networking drinks and startup demos across the All Energy Australia conference. With over 30 startups and 45 speakers taking to the stage and more on display in the hallway outside, innovation took centre stage.

Day 1 - October 23:

The first day kicked off with the inaugural Startup demos & espressos segment. A strong opener from Lynelle Johnson from EClass Outboards was followed by a masterclass from Earl Duran of Diagno Energy and Tooraj Arvajeh from Perl Street on their respective technologies, with the session brought home by Tristan Place of VizAR.

SuperCharge Australia Innovation Challenge #2: Retrofit Nation delivered a vision for the future of the lithium battery industry in Australia - this time with an eye to retrofits, and a glimpse into the startups with the technology to get us there, featuring Electric Power Conversions Australia, Net Zero Engineering Solutions, EClass Outboards, Jaunt, REVR, and Cuedo Controls of the program's current cohort.

After lunch we dove into Startups Innovating in Consumer Energy Resources - chaired by Ruchika Deora of the SEC and featuring Mitch O'Neill of Optigrid, David Barshevski of Techko, Chris Martell of Diagno Energy, Laura Jones of ANU, and Alan Hunter of NRN. This was followed by New Technology that's Electrifying Transport chaired by Carly Irving-Dolan of Prospecta Utilities, and featuring Dr. Shalini Divya of TasmanIon, Carola Jonas of Everty, Carmen Yuen of Amped, and Tejesh Kashyap of BZE.

The day's talks were capped off with a panel on Breakthrough Collaborations: Industry Innovation with Startups chaired by EnergyLab's very own Megan Fisher. Joined by Nicole Jullian Sahr of Endeavour Energy, Christine Brennan of Powerlink, Suchi Szczepanski of Origin, and Jack Curtis of Neara, they provided some critical insight into how startups and industry can work together to propel innovation forward. Finishing the day on a high, the industry innovation panel was followed by the Pitch Event: Industry Ready Startups featuring Mark Croudace of MGA Thermal, Kate Osaze of ReSwitch, Tia Collings of Enaxiom and Alan Hunter of NRN.

Finishing the day on a high, the Innovation Ready Networking Drinks packed the hallway outside the theatre.

Day 2 - October 24:

Nearly as packed as day 1, the second day of the conference kicked off again with Startup demos & espressos - this time featuring Dominic Spooner of Vaulta, Steve Hoy of Enosi Energy, Tia Collings of Enaxiom and Mark Hartmann of Snapi, who brought along a crowd favourite - a prop!

Morning sessions kicked off with an important discussion on Made in Australia: The Startup Dilemma. Chaired by Dr. Usha Iyer-Raniga of RMIT and featuring Neeraj Das of Elecsome, Patrick Mooney of Impact Tech Ventures, David Doral of Dovetail Electric Aviation, and Portia Rooney of Net Zero Engineering Solutions the panel dove into a discussion on what factor might help or inhibit a startup from setting up manufacturing facilities in Australia. This was followed by a panel on Innovations in Community Engagement & Biodiversity for Energy Projects chaired by EnergyLab CEO and Director Megan Fisher and featuring Kate Osaze of Reswitch, Jada Anderson of Xylo Systems, Tristan Place of VizAR, and Ashley Clifton on ACEN.

After lunch we dove into Startups Shaping the Future of the Built Environment chaired by Adam Skan, Investment Manager at Impact Ventures and featuring Sam Ringwaldt of ConryTech, Julian Featherston of HAL Systems, Ringo Thomas of CLT Toolbox and Cameron Knox of Allume Energy. This was followed by a panel on Startups Helping to Decarbonise Industry chaired by Jackie Mckeon of Climate-KIC and featuring Prashant Parulekar of InfigoLabs, Cameron Bell of Pyrochar, Tia Collings of Enaxiom, and Nathan Steggel of Aratherm.

Of course it wouldn't be a startup showcase without a pitch event to cap off the proceedings! The Pitch Event: Breakthrough Technologies capped off the day with 10 startups pitching: Allegro Energy, Optigrid, Perl Street, Kapture, InfigoLabs, Xylo Systems, TasmanIon, Dovetail Electric Aviation, REVR and EPCA.

We'd love to thank our sponsors: The Melbourne Climate Network, Dassault Systemes, ARENA and Ackama.

This Project received funding from the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) as part of ARENA's Advancing Renewables Program.
